Virtually everywhere in the world the new year is greeted by sensational firework shows.
Fireworks awaken primal instincts in humans by means of the idea/image of fire, their thunder-like sound and the kaleidoscopic dance.
Evocative shapes and colours accompany us in a reflection on the concept of beauty, on the mechanisms of photography and the reproductivity of images.
This is an off-camera project developed exclusively on smartphones and tablets : the starting point are snapshots taken with a cameraphone by relatives living abroad and then instantly sent like "postcards". These are snapshots of tv-images transmitted during the new year's fireworks.
These images are then enlarged to show parts selected by the author.
This entire process could recall Plato's cave, the idea that reality has different levels of purity: on one side we're moving away from the physical truth of what's happening (the fireworks>the live broadcasting>the cameraphone>the enlargement>the print), but on the other side we're getting closer to the reality of the image and of the medium (the pixels, the chromatic aberrations, the monitor stripes, the reflections on the screen).
Which is the most "real" and interesting incarnation of reality? Is it the "physical" truth of the fireworks or the "abstract" truth of the image of the fireworks, enriched with all the elements picked up in the process?

Praticamente ovunque nel mondo il nuovo anno si festeggia con i fuochi d'artificio, forse perché essi risvegliano istinti primordiali nell'uomo attraverso l’idea/immagine del fuoco, il corrispettivo sonoro dei "botti" e il caleidoscopio di forme e colori.
Forme e colori evocativi ci accompagnano in una riflessione sull'idea di bellezza, sui meccanismi della fotografia e della riproduzione dell’immagine.
Il progetto è realizzato off-camera su smartphone e tablet: il punto di partenza sono immagini scattate da parenti lontani e inviate in tempo reale come “cartoline”, si tratta di fotografie fatte col telefono di immagini di fuochi d’artificio trasmesse sul televisore in occasione del nuovo anno. Queste immagini sono poi ingrandite per mettere in evidenza alcuni particolari scelti dall’autore.
L’intero procedimento potrebbe far pensare al mito della caverna di Platone, ai vari livelli di avvicinamento e allontanamento dalla realtà : da un lato c’è un allontanamento dalla realtà fisica degli eventi (la ripresa, il televisore, il telefonino, l’ingrandimento, la stampa) ma dall’altro un avvicinamento alla realtà dell’immagine e del medium (i pixel, le aberrazioni cromatiche, le righe del monitor, i riflessi).
Qual’è l'incarnazione più vera e più interessante della realtà? Quella "fisica" dei fuochi o quella "astratta" dell’immagine dei fuochi con tutto ciò che si porta dietro attraverso le varie fasi?
